It took a wake-up call from his doctor to get Parma resident Ray Glessner thinking seriously about his health. The 43-year-old’s blood pressure and cholesterol had been elevated for years, both of which are known risk factors for heart and vascular disease.

For the first time in 36 years, Jerry Muterspaugh is free of his cigarette addiction—and he owes it all to “having a plan.” Jerry began to think seriously about his health at age 45, when he learned he had type-2 diabetes. The birth of his first grandchild, Sophie, a few years later was another wake-up call for him. Finally, at age 50, Jerry decided it was time to quit smoking for good.

A friend came alongside and two years later Jane and her pals are still taking it step by step on Jackson’s Falling Waters Trail. “Watching the seasons change, seeing the wildlife and getting fresh air became part of my day that I began to look forward to,” said Jane.
